The Show
Abba, Boy George, Buddy Holly, Elvis, Madness, Queen, Rod Stewart… is there
a pop star living or dead who hasn’t had a musical written about them? How long before we see Kajagoogoo the Musical…?
The Next Big Thing is a rock
'n' rollercoaster ride through the story of the British chart scene from the moment a youthful Cliff Richard stepped out onstage,
till the moment some four decades later when he stepped out again looking exactly the same. In between - Merseybeat, Swinging
London, Psychedelia, Glam Rock, Punk, New Romantics, Britpop… like a King Crimson concept album, we could go on and
on.
Our story is told through the eyes of wannabe rock star Mike West,
the Forrest Gump of the British music scene. Wherever it was at, he was at. Every major musical event, he witnessed it. Every
musical style, he played it. Every drug going, he took it. Mike has been there, done that, eaten the Mars bar and helped to
put an end to Bill Grundy’s career.
The one thing that Mike has never done is ‘made it’. And that’s
the one thing that Mike wants above all else. From the moment he sets out on his musical odyssey, Mike longs to be a rock’n’roll
star. He dreams of being like his arch-rival Zak Love, a natural born rock god with more sex-appeal than Mick Jagger,
more attitude than Johnny Rotten and more make-up than David Bowie. But how much is Mike willing to sacrifice to be The
Next Big Thing?
With original songs in the style of Britain's all-time favourite bands, The
Next Big Thing packs a bigger punch than Liam Gallagher at a press conference. Just don’t expect any Kajagoogoo
parodies…
